Croydon 2 fight a mighty battle against Croydon 1

The return local derby between the mighty Croydon 2 against close rivals Croydon 1 was an exciting affair at the warm and airy Royal Russell.

With both teams bringing their own crowds of supporters, referee Lol More had his work cut out to make his whistle heard above the roar and cheers of of support.

Croydon 2 were fast out of the starting blocks, with Mills and Omar recycling the ball superbly around the post whilst the first attack female pairing of Withers (S) and Wright (S) pumped the shots at the basket. The ball just failed to fall through the basket for them though, and the referee had to take a long hard look at the post to make sure that the opposing team hadn't covered the basket with clingfilm.

First defense of Campbell (A), Jeanes (A), Stevens (A), and Ellis (V) were marking all over the pitch, and Croydon 1 were clearly rattled as their top scorer failed to score his trademark first goal from the corner. (Ok, ok, so he scored a peach of a goal in the second half instead!)

Croydon 2 were working hard as a team to exploit their strengths whilst forcing errors from their opponents when they could. This led to referee More awarding at least 7 penalties to the home team, although sadly not all of them were converted.

The game went to the final whistle, but Croydon 2 were not on the winning side of the scoreline.

Croydon 3 brush aside Supernova 3 with a confident performance

What a start to the new year! all eager to play and lovely opposition, well my opponent was nice...

Starting in attack was the previous four of Ed, Julie, Martin and I leaving defence to Dom, Kerry, Mark and Vicky. We started off the stronger with 2 lovely goals knowing what was happening with fresh passes for balanced poised shots. Could our defence section match us? Of course they could... and hence we advanced to a 4-0 lead. However, Supernova woke up after their long travel to us (along with some sloppy play from us in defence) and scored the next 3 goals to bring the score back to 4-3. Fortunately, we were able to stop the trend with a goal from Kerry as the last goal of the half making it 5-3 at the break.

Half time Ian and Steve gave us some pointers and again we were all distracted by Adam and Lukes bright and I mean bright pink socks.

Second half we played well and relaxed and began with the 2 sides getting a goal each. However, with some good interceptions and shot rotation, we managed to dominate the scoring for a long period, taking the score to 9-4. Looking comfortable and plying well, we maintained the 5 goal gap to the end of the game, which finished 11-6.
A good performance from the team all round, but particularly in the 2nd half, which is evident in the final score.
Shame Julie didn't score I was trying to make her work! Ed did usual run everywhere, Mark tried to copy Julie by throwing himself on the floor but she wins with her goalie save and all legal!

Agree with Dom being MPV (though the 2 penalties he scored, out of his 4 goal tally, were from fouls on Mark), and well done everyone I do hope you all enjoyed the January run about x

Well earned draw and Jon's 100th for the club

With Jon, Paul, Laura and Emily making up the first attack and with David, Craig, Sarah and new to korfball Ellie in defence the match looked as though it was going to be a hard work for both sides as the 5's were playing with one girl short. Scoring took some time to get going with hard defending from both sides but it was Croydon 5's Alex who opened the scoring. With much improved recycling of the ball compared with previous matches Croydon 4 game back with a goal from Jon, his 100th for the club, the hard defending continued from both sides, with the change in sections it was now Jon and co. to defend and David's section to attack. Against three this should have been relatively simple but with Pete's height and experience, shots again were missed and mainly recycled but far too many were not collected for a variety of reasons; however it has to be said that throughout the match Ellie and Sarah gave as good as they got from Pete. It was eventually Tom that broke the dead lock sinking 2 giving Croydon 5 the 3-1 advantage at half time.
With half time observations from Jon and Sarah and a risky instruction from David Croydon 4 came out looking the more determined (a bias point of view maybe?) and certainly with Jon's section looking more fluid, eager and moving really well to open up space for themselves Jon eventually sank a 4m 2nd for himself and the 4's this was soon replied by Pete. Croydon 5's looked as though this was going to their game with Emma scoring shortly after the change. With David's section having to deal with Pete's height, particularly in collect David tried to keep his distance either to force Pete to stay away from the post or to give him space to shoot which he did and thankfully a distance shot went in. All change again with the work load continuing and space being found Laura found herself free and took the risk and shot to make the score 5-4 to the 5's. The 4's played the ball around running in looking for the long shots working, working eventually Paul found a way around Tom running in for a sort of a twisting twirly shot which went in. The whistle went for a goal or defended....... a moment of confusion followed before the ref decided GOAL 5-5. With seconds to go Hanna went down stopping the match for a while. With the restart the final whistle blew. Well fought draw from the 4's. My MVP for his two goals, tireless work and for his 100th Goal is Jon. Once more it could have gone to so many.

Any thing I have missed please feel free to add.
