Late night game proves too much for Croydon 1 vs Bec

The team travelled to Whitgift School late on Sunday evening for their first game back after Christmas against Bec. With warm up and team talk all done, the game began.

Bec struck first, followed up with 2 more unanswered goals. It was then Croydon’s turn, with a drop off goal from Simon followed by a long shot by Andy. Croydon took heart from these and started to push Bec harder in defence, with their shots becoming more pressured.
Unfortunately Bec performed a 12 goal volley, before Stephen cut them off with cheeky runner to bring Croydon’s first half total to 3. Bec scored 3 more, making the scores 18 – 3 at half time.
After a quick break, Croydon came back on to the pitch determined to keep their heads up. Stephen scored the first goal of the second half, but Bec followed with 11 goals before Stephen stopped their streak with a runner, bringing the score to 29 – 5. Following a long shot from Simon, Bec finished up with 3 more goals, leaving the final scores on the doors at 34 – 6.
Croydon played hard, and kept their heads up when many a team would have given up.

Frustrating game as Swans go down fighting

Swans travelled to Millwall to face Supernova 2 hoping to secure a win for their first game of 2016. The first half of the game was fast paced and saw both teams scoring and then the other battling and managing to secure a goal back. Coach White opened the scoring for the Swans by scoring 2 runners, frustratingly the lead was continuously clawed back by Supernova who battled hard. Walsh turned in the feed to reach under his opponent and score the 3rd goal for the swans, followed by Sturgess turning her opponent and scoring the 4th goal for the Swans in the first half.
At half time Swans were 7-4 down and frustration was running high. Calm words from coach White advised the team to go back to playing how we did at the start. Battling for the ball but remaining calm and remembering our positioning.
The second half saw the Swans claw back to a draw when White scored another runner and a long shot from about 5 metres. Galloway scored runner making up for an unfortunate disallowed goal from her earlier in the game and Smith scored the last goal of the game with his trademark one handed shot. The game ended 11-8 though the Swans fought hard, at one point having a lead and twice battling from 3 goals down to becoming even with their opposition.

Thanks to Supernova 2 for a fast paced competitive game.
