Fiesty game against Bec 2 ends in defeat for CroydonKeeping the sections fairly similar, the game started with Luke, Adam, Becki and Sarah in first attack and Zu, Simon, Kim and Kathy in defence. The game started quite slowly and very closely until 4-4. With 2 pens thrown in, a sneaky drop off from Simon and some good team work from Kim and Kathy, switching their girls and working a great goal from Kim, Croydon started to feel confident. However, with Bec’s fast, tall boys, it was difficult to keep their goals out and half time saw the score 10-7 to Bec. However, in the second half our goals didn’t seem to be dropping any more and the game got more and more feisty, with some very vocal players on both teams. Croydon won several penalties and Luke and Adam handled their opponents very well under the post, as did Paul when he subbed on for Luke. Croydon’s last goal came from a beautiful runner from Sarah – very well deserved. Zu put in 100% throughout the whole game and Kim kept up her scoring streak! Final score – 16-11. A spirited game which perhaps could have been closer, but surely our next encounter will swing our way. Just remember the 7 P’s… Match Report by Kathy Final Score: Bec 2 16 vs 11 Croydon 1U Player (3)Z Omar (1)A Stevens (1)S Mills (3)P Jeanes (0)K Munro (2)S Withers (1)B Sinclair (0)K Bradford (0)H Robinson (0)Submitted by Kathy on 13 Nov 16Croydon lose well fought game after falling off in the second halfAnother game, another new look Croydon 2 team! Travelling to Millwall this week we had Nigel, Craig, Dawn and Jules in first attack, leaving Dom, Stephen, Kay and Beccy in first defence. The game started at a good pace with both teams exchanging blows to leave the score at 7-6 at half time to Supernova. The half time team talk was to continue the good 1:1 defensive work and to take our shots when we could. However, this plan seem to go out the window as a few sloppy mistakes found us 11-6 down-time for a time out. We went over our game plan again and attempted to correct the errors, the talk seemed to have worked for a bit with Croydon getting the score back to 11-9, but then the wheeels fell off a bit again and Supernove eventually won 17-11. A hard fought game with plenty of positives, but we really need to focus on our second half displays which have now cost us in the last two matches. Positives to take away though: Kay-MVP display with some good defensive work and a hat-trick as well. Nigel-getting the landmark goals to take him to the top of the clubs scorers chart. Stephen-effortlessly fitting into a new section and working hard throughout. Dom-couple more goals to the tally. Dawn-Brilliant defensive work and unlucky with a few shots. Jules-battled well and got a cheeky little goal. Craig-Worked hard all game and also got on the scoresheet. Beccy-popped up in some brilliant positions and was unlucky not to get her goal. The 3rd team were once again on their travels and unfortunately were once again on the receiving end of a very heavy defeat. While the 17 goal victory somewhat flatters the very good Supernova side, the game is about converting chances. They did it very well and we didn't! There were a few positives; we created good chances against a well drilled and athletic 2nd team who were all looking to impress and push for 1st team spots. We also battled to the final whistle and despite the score line didn't let our heads drop!
