Croydon start strong, but Tigers roar away with the win in EKL Promo matchStarting team: Attack: Luke, Adam, Becks, Jess Defence: Andy, Zu, Kathy, Kim (bday girl!) Croydon got off to a strong start with a couple of early goals and strong pressure in defence as we took an early lead 3-1. We were under the careful watch of Coach Anna who passed on Colin's instructions to commit to heavy one-on-one defence from the start. Cambridge struggled to attack against this pressure to begin with but quickly adjusted and their shots begun to drop after some well-worked feeding from both girls and boys. At half time the score was 9-3. With a brief discussion on how to attack against Tiger's strong front defence and an emphasis on staying calm and playing our own game, we went back into the second half in fighting spirit. Our ball movement was better throughout the second half but unfortunately we just couldn't keep up with Cambridge's shot conversion and their lead continued to grow. Craig subbed on in the last few minutes. Despite the game running away from us, we kept smiling throughout and put the fun in kor-fun-ball! Final score was 21-11 to Cambridge. Spirits remained high as we sung happy birthday to our one and only Kim Munrow (who, btw, had a corker of a match) and indulged in one of Kathy's lovely home made cupcakes! All the excitement was a bit too much for Andy though who was busting for a wee the whole journey home! Who knew speedbumps could be so entertaining, hey Anna?! Thank you Anna for coaching, and to our friends and family who came to support us! Croydon soon found themselves 8-0 down, due to a lot of problems we created ourselves. There were a few missed placed passes and a couple of silly penalties given away, but our defense was getting better and by half time it was 10-2. The second half was much better for Croydon, eliminating some of the errors from the first half, and we were starting to put together a few nice moves and have less one shot attacks. We battled well until the end but eventually it finished 22-9. We lost the game in three main areas; some wayward passing, lack of control of the post and dips in concentration. But at least we don't have to wait long for the re-match to give Nomads a much closer game the next time! Thanks to Jules, Hannah and Tom for stepping up to the 2nds and for working hard to make a game of it. Also a big thanks to Alex for slotting back in to the team nicely. Bring on the reverse fixture next week.Match Report by Kathy | Updated by Kathy Final Score: Nomads 2 22 vs 9 Croydon 2S Gooch (2)N Hudspith (2)T Raffield (1)D Bradford (1)A Burr (0)J Johnson (1)B Lockett (1)H Raffield (1)L Nicholls (0)Submitted by Kathy on 11 Dec 16
