Croydon thaw their way past Ice

On a dusty afternoon, Croydon met Norwich ice on the second meeting of the league. Croydon players started the game with a changed lineup, Nigel Hudspith and Stephen Gooch stepping in for Luke (maverick) James and Andy (ski slope) Withers.
Croydon therefore set up against what looked like a slightly changed Norwich team with Nigel, Adam, Kay and Hannah in attack while veteran Zak, Kim, Stephen and capt. Kathy made up defence.

Norwich started a simple system of attacking with their girls playing a 2-2 formation, while Croydon employed their long shooting prowess. It was Croydon that got the first goal and teams quickly exchanged goals. Croydon were able to take a two goal lead during the first half and Norwich employed a time out.

Norwich came back to the game employing a rebound defence in one division while the other played front. This quickly frustrated the Croydon players and eventually Norwich found a way back.

Croydon coaches cam even out at the half and tried to get Croydon to employ a different style of attack which payed dividends. While Luke looked like he should be taking notes Adam and Nigel put away a few choice long shots. Croydon pulled ahead with a three goal lead with 5 minutes to spare.

Norwich were not done and put yet and started to pull back. The coach had had enough of sought to change the game by bringing on Dan James to add some firepower. The veteran was off and Dan duly obliged to keep Croydon's win in a photo finish right up to the final whistle.

It was definitely a game for the neutral and the home supporters would only describe this game in words of Sir Alex Ferguson," it was squeaky bum time"

Croydon four in a fair draw

An early start and with cold sports hall like playing outdoors! Though coming off the pitch they all were red faced and sweaty!!

First defence Bryan, Jade, Mark and Vicky with attack of Adam, Annie, Callum and Sarah.

Now with my full concentration on game I totally forgot to write scorers at first or even who started where as Adam not sure and thought in defence and let in first 2 goals but Callum thinks started in attack and in answer to Mitcham first goal Annie scored? Needless to say the first Croydon goal was scored by Annie. Nice play from Sarah to Annie and followed by a long shot by Bryan. Mitcham obviously were scoring too and it looked to be an enjoyable and well matched game.

The Mitcham guys were tall but the duo of Bryan and Mark kept their guys on toes and moving. In fact swopping into attack Mark scored two quick goals to put himself back into defence. Last goal of half time was a long shot from Adam leaving score 4 - 5 in Croydon favour.

Half time talk was to continue working and push those shots that hitting the basket that bit more so they go in! Jade and Callum to try to feed at times and all keep playing the ball round.

Second half, what a speedy defence from Sarah stopping her girl shooting from a free throw, she was straight there! Ball to Mark who again converted his shot. But Bryan thinking and playing well got a cheeky shot in too. With 2 goals up Annie got over excited to get the ball happily in attack but whilst standing in the defence! or maybe she just wanted a bigger court the fitness lover..

Needless to say it was a tough game and Mitcham were scoring too and even pulled in front 9 - 7 eek. Croydon never faltered or flustered and continued working, moving the classic follow your long shot paid off for Annie scored a runner by collecting her long shot and was composed enough to swish the penalty! hmm maybe the MPV wasn't between Mark and Bryan but Annie? Oh no now I think my little note is Mark followed the long shot to score - oh my, someone did anyway.

100% last goal for Croydon was scored by Bryan who with Jade being in the feed and waiting, thinking well I'm here so use me he did and with a perfect assist from Jade Bryan scored. Yeah Shame Mitcham scored but think the draw was ok.

The team played well with effort by all. Short shots started going in, some passing wide but overall good and as usual not used to playing together so come training if you can guys!! x
