It featured Vik, Andy, Sophie and Lorna in attack; Ed, Ben, Emma and Annie in defence with Ed tasked with marking Bec's only obvious threat - Tiago - in what was otherwise a fairly new and inexperienced side. Croydon weren't going to go easy though and were soon on the attack with Vik making the most of some quick and direct passing to dumbfound his opponent. Sophie was finding her feet playing only her 2nd game but she was teamed up with Lorna, who is close to her 2nd century of games and that's only since 2003! Vik scored his chance and Andy scored the first of 3 penalties. Meanwhile down the other end, Annie was buzzing around as the two boys toyed with their opponents while Emma generally picked up the pieces as shots went up and came down but typically without going thru the round yellow thingy. Eventually Annie got bored and scored to spare the boys' blushes and then it was time for Sophie first ever goal in korfball. It was somewhat of a blurr but she beat her played, received the ball back from the feed and, slightly off balance, tossed up a running in shot that rolled around a bit and then the ball decided gravity knew best and dropped through. The crowd went wild. Even Vik's son came on the pitch to celebrate. Anyhoo, half-time came with the teams at about 8-0. Croydon tried to play a more expansive game in the 2nd half to try something new and also to get a goal for Emma and whilst this upset the flow a bit we carried on scoring and Bec to their creditr battled on and banged a couple in. Final score: 15-2 and really we left quite a few goals out there but fun was had by all.
