Fun at VelocitasAnd what fun was had at Velocitas this year. Karen James was in the driving seat for this great annual event, and she managed to persuade, bribe, twist the arms of enough players to make up 3 Croydon teams. There was room for everyone on this trip, from old 'uns to young 'uns; from new players to experienced players; from socialites to social outcasts; no one wanted to be left at home! For those who wanted to build team spirit and get into the swing of things early, there was the minibus travel option ... leaving at 4am I believe! For others, with slightly more sense, there was the flying option, or the bring the family in a car option! Whatever the mode of transport, everyone arrived in approximately one piece, and the playing matches stuff could get started. It's fair to say, that some matches were won and some lost. Not all Croydon teams registered a win, but some did! Everyone who wanted to play, played. Some even played for the opposition teams. As for the actual scores, and the people who actually scored the goals, well it's a team game isn't it?? And it's the taking part that counts not the actual final scores isn't it? Or maybe I could just admitt to not actually knowing all the scores! I do know that the weather was kind, it didn't rain, and it wasn't too hot hot hot. I know that there were players who learnt huge amounts during the day, who really raised their game and who showed the sort of team spirit that other teams can only dream about! And at the end of it all, Croydon KC presented Velocitas with a framed Croydon playing shirt, signed by all the players there, to be hung in their newly built clubhouse as a permenant reminder of the close links the two clubs have built up. And then the partying started. Obviously I can't say much about the partying, what happens on tour, stays on tour, and all that! I believe there might have been some singing ... And maybe the odd glass of refreshing shandy was drunk to help quench the raging thirst ... And there was some socializing with Velocitas players ... and with Cambridge City players ... And then by 10pm I'm sure everyone was safely tucked up in their camp beds. Unless anyone else knows differently???
